The sixth residency of the Ken Blanchard Executive MBA will be held July 8-11 at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego, CA. Student executives will be immersed in four days of classroom training, group discussions, team projects and self assessment. Program faculty will include Ken Blanchard, trainers and coaches from the Blanchard Companies and Grand Canyon University professors.
Advisory board member Eric Pillmore will conduct a dynamic simulation based on his experience as Senior Vice President of Corporate Governance at Tyco International. Students from the three active cohorts will play roles in the simulation as well as take part in a panel discussion with Pillmore and other members of the advisory board. Student executives from across the U.S. gathered in Phoenix in January for the fifth residency of Grand Canyon University’s Ken Blanchard Executive MBA program. The KBEMBA has become the flagship program for the College of Business and the University. The residency was highlighted by a panel discussion with the EMBA advisory board on the topic “Leading in Difficult Times.” Participating members included Margie Blanchard, author Kevin Freiberg, former Tyco executive Eric Pillmore, former Southwest Airlines president Colleen Barrett and Blanchard Companies president Tom McKee. The Ken Blanchard EMBA is one of the only MBA programs that focus on leadership, particularly servant leadership. Each cohort of 15-20 students moves through the program together, attending three four-day residencies, but completing most of the program in a flexible online setting. Students are executive leaders who complete the blended learning program in one year. Two current EMBA participants are playing roles in noteworthy national events. Cohort 5's Michael Horne is a member of the Secret Service and leads a specialized team involved with protecting the President, and Cohort 4 member Sherri Shamblin is Vice President of Inflight Services for US Airways, where she has a lead role in debriefing crew members from flight 1549. All Ken Blanchard College of Business students, staff, and faculty were invited to participate in a fall semester kick-off event - "Learning at a Higher Level in the 21st Century," a one hour webcast with Ken Blanchard on Friday, September 19th. This was a wonderful way for our college community to connect with Ken and hear his vision first-hand. Ken's interactive presentation, which was offered exclusively to KBCOB students, staff, and faculty, highlighted Ken's commitment to offering our students rigorous academic programs infused with the principles of Servant Leadership, Innovation, and Entrepreneurial Spirit. The first Ed.D. residency was held at GCU' s campus from June 16-20, 2008. The experience provided an opportunity for students to connect with each other, faculty, key administrators and support staff, and the university as an institution. The residency kicked off with an evening reception where welcome messages were delivered by the CAO and Provost, Dr. Kathy Player, the acting Dean of the College of Education, Dr. Cheri St. Arnauld, and the Dean of The Ken Blanchard College of Business, Kim Donaldson. The Program began on a high note with the TYCO role-play facilitated by Mr. Eric Pillmore (Retired Senior Vice President of Corporate Governance at Tyco Intl.). Other topics covered in this residency included Organizational Ethics, Servant Leadership, Emotional Intelligence, and Generational Ethics. Participants also received an overview on how to begin their doctoral journey and to use library resources for doctoral research.
